A passion for research:
That's me, on the left, in the flannel, checking the heart rate of a 31 kg Mexican Gray wolf. I traveled a long road before becoming a 7th grade math/science teacher at High Tech Middle North County.
I have always been eager to learn and discover new things. Since I was a child, I wanted to explore the world around me. My love of the outdoors led to a degree in Ecology, Behavior, and Evolution. My research practices started with animals, bees to be exact, continued onto wolves, and now continues with middle school students. Although it may sem like a far stretch, there is not a lot of difference between the behavior patterns of bees, wolves, and middle schoolers! The GSE at HTH will be just another learning adventure where I can continue to explore the world around me. However this time, I will be striving to make the world a better place by educating the children. This DP will be where you can find all my findings, writings, and wonderings.
About me:
Originally from River Forest Illinois (a suburb of Chicago), I found myself working on the floor of the Chicago Board of Trade as a clerk dealing with agricultural futures. Although this was an exciting job, I had an overwhelming urge to pack up and head west.
My travels brought me to Breckenridge Colorado, where I ... well .... skied.....for about 4 years. Here I met my wife Amy and we decided to travel together, continuing further west. After a year living on the north shores of Lake Tahoe, we settled in sunny San Diego.
I entered school and earned my degree in Ecology, Behavior, and Evolution from UCSD. While in school I was fortunate enough to spend 3 weeks in a small farming community in Brazil researching stingless bees. I also spent a summer as an intern at the California Wolf Center. During finals of my last quarter in school, my beautiful daughter Marley was born. We soon moved up to Julian where I served as the Education Manager at the Wolf Center.
And now, here I am, excited to take on another challenge. I am honored to be part of the staff of High Tech Middle North County and look forward to an incredible school year!
